Professor and Boris Chair of Drug DiscoveryMcMaster University

Jakob Magolan is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, where he leads a research group specializing in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. His lab's work sits at the intersection of fundamental chemistry and real-world application, developing novel, efficient processes for the manufacture of pure bioactive compounds.  He is also the founder of Naturally Synthetic Inc., a university spin-off developing patented manufacturing technologies for pure cannabinoids. His research group discovered a breakthrough selective synthesis route for CBG, the result of a collaboration studying its antibiotic potential, that solved a longstanding chemistry problem and formed the basis of issued US patents and pending patents in Canada and Europe. A frequent industry speaker, Magolan is known for making cannabinoid chemistry accessible and actionable for product developers, investors, and researchers building the next generation of cannabis science and commerce. His work is driven by a conviction that the future of cannabinoid products, from consumer goods to FDA-approved medicines, will be built on reliable science, rigorous manufacturing standards, and a clear-eyed understanding of what pure molecules actually are.

The race to the highest THC percentage is losing steam. Educated buyers now ask what a product does, not just how strong it is, and that shift is rewriting cannabis market trends across cultivation, retail, and manufacturing. Minor cannabinoids sit at the center of this change. CBG, CBN, CBC, and THCV each bring distinct profiles, from CBN's role in sleep formulations to THCV's appetite and energy associations, backed by a growing body of early scientific and clinical research.

This session connects that science to real cannabis industry opportunities. The panelists will break down where the evidence stands today, which compounds are gaining traction, and how to translate them into products that command premium pricing and loyal customers. They’ll explore practical commercialization pathways, from extraction and formulation to positioning and compliant claims, and leave with cannabis business growth strategies you can act on.
